Economic Development
Overview
The city of Lansing's Department of Economic Development plays a variety of roles within city government and the local community. The Department works with local businesses to aid in their growth and expansion and also promotes economic growth by attracting new businesses. The city of Lansing has adopted an Economic Development Incentive Policy to promote this process.

The completion of the Main Street System Enhancement Project in November 2007 improved and widened K-7 / US73 Highway through Lansing and provides additional enticement for retailers and industrial developers. The completion of this project reduces congestion for the 25,000 vehicles that travel daily on this major north/south corridor. Recent studies predict the daily traffic count will reach 40,000 to 50,000 vehicles some time in the next 20 years. The city of Lansing is currently pursuing a direct connection to Interstate 435 in the southern portion of Lansing through a realignment of K-5. This project has been submitted to the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Mid-America Regional Council. The city of Lansing staff is currently working to identify funding for a K-5 Corridor Study.

Other Projects
Recent office / retail space has been completed along Eisenhower Road, Main Street (K-7) and Kansas Avenue. Lansing Towne Center, located just west of Lansing's City Hall, is also taking shape.
